In recent years, more and more new immigrants began to move to Taiwan, which is a country of complex ethnic and multicultural. Among them, there are many Muslims form South Asia and other countries of Middle East such as Turkey, Arabia and Iran. Muslim culture is very different on the aspects of food, clothing, housing and transportation. They are inseparable from the Koran and Islamic norms. Furthermore, the needs of participating in sports and involving in leisure activity are very different from Taiwan. However, like other immigrants, Muslims tend to be marginalized in society, due to the language barrier, low social status, lack of recreational opportunities for other factors, hinder their participation and involvement in sport and leisure activities. Therefore, this article suggested the government and practitioners in sport industries develop some policy related to Muslim sport participation and provide sport and leisure space and programs especially for Muslims. Also, through Muslim organizations, the Islamic culture can be advocate to the non-Muslim people. On the other hand, Muslims should be taught that recreational sports and other sport are good for their health to encourage Muslims participate in sports and leisure activities more often. Thus, it not only helps people understand the Muslim community, but also decreases the stereotypes and promote harmony in our society, promote social mobility and create more social capital. And finally, it can attract more tourism and Muslim ethnic groups in Taiwan. |
