According to the study titled: Healthy People 2020 published by the Health Promotion Admi-nistration, Ministry of Health and Welfare in 2008, Taiwan has become an aging society. Due to the increasing population in disabled elderly and its cost of long-term medical care, five evaluation indexes have been established: 1) the prevention of frailty and mentally or physically disabled elderly, 2) the prevention of falls and fracture, 3) the prevention of elderly suicide due to depression, 4) the prevention of elderly rehabilitation and care after a stroke, 5) signing and implementation of pre-established instructions by the elderly. We focus on the first four Indexes, and research the evidence-based medicine and literature related to Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM). As preliminary research in the application to "prevention of the disabled elderly," we expect to discover the benefits of TCM and exert its efficacy on the stage before the long-term care network, improving the quality of life for the elderly. |
