The research aims to understand the public cognition and preference for green buildings appearance, to consolidate the design characteristics of ecological buildings in various environment and climates, and to analyze the difference of evaluation index between ecological buildings and green buildings. The appearance image research is conducted for the six hot-humid region architecture types generalized from the environmental strategies (e.g. cooling, shading and ventilation) such as high-ceiling roof, elevated floors with rails, extra sun-shade, corridor veranda, ventilation vents, and earth-coverage, and for the seven building materials such as wood, bamboo, stones, earth, bricks, metal, and concrete. The research adopts the 10-point Likert scale along with the questionnaires and computer simulations to find out the participants’ preference for the building appearance. Results indicate that in terms of the preference for hot-humid region architecture types, elevated floors with rails ranks first with average preference of 5.67, and that in terms of the acceptance level, earth-coverage and elevated floors with rails rank top with average preference of 5.58. As for whether the appearance of green building ‘needs’ to indicate the preference results, the participants in south region and scenery spots agree the most. |
