Jiang Hong-jiao is one of the typical authors of The Mandarin Duck and Butterfly School. He published total 11 short stories in the late a hundred volumes of Li-bai-liu magazine. These novels not only contain a wide variety of elements and express modern points of view, but also have great achievements of the contents and the techniques of forms of writing. In regard to the contents, Jiang Hong-jiao’s social novels reflect the difficult life of workers, chaotic phenomena in schools and financial communities, and how the government officials and soldiers bother and persecute the people in the early years of the Republic. His family novels on the other hand condemn the man that loses virtues, the parents that are irresponsible, and the traditional marriage of Patriarchy. The perspectives are never clichés. He writes with a heavy heart and has profound compassion for the ordinary people. As for the techniques of forms of writing, Jiang Hong-jiao’s short novels have the characteristics of fragmentation. He’s good at flashing back methods and the narratives of the mind, which shows the formal meaning of “modernization.” |
