Islam was established in the 7th century. During the past 14 centuries the relations between Islamic world and Christian West have been developed into complicity; there existed communications and conflicts between communities of the two faiths, and even until present days the clashes are still going on. For the sake of world peace, many Muslims and Christians have devoted to the active inter-religious or inter-civilizational dialogues; nevertheless, dialogues must be conducted with the attitudes of tolerance and mutual understandings. Judaism, Christianity, and Islam are all originated from the Hanīfism of Abraham, but developed into different traditions and teachings respectively. For the harmony and peace of human societies, a starting point of dialogue that is acknowledged by all the believers should be set up. Jesus Christ has been venerated by Muslims because of his important and special status described in the Quran, and he could be regarded as an inter-religious dialogue model. This essay thus attempts to analyze the Qur’anic verses about Jesus Christ in order to bring out a genuine description as reference to the Muslim-Christian dialogue. |
