This study is about a higher educational campus in Kwantung Leased Territory and Manchuria, China, which was established by Japanese colonist in the beginning of the Nineteenth Century, named as the South Manchuria Industrial School. The purpose of this study is to clarify the historical facts of the campus establishment and evolution between 1911-1945. Based on first-hand literature research, the historical facts of the campus are clarified, of first. Then, by analyzing the transition of the campus site, the transition of buildings, designers and their design philosophy are identified for the whole evolution progress of the campus before 1945. One contribution of this research is finding the key designers of the campus, Yokoi Kensuke and Oka Oji. The other contribution is management collation and classification of original documents of the higher educational campuses in Kwantung leased Territory. Especially numerous design papers that disclosed for the first time were discovered. Based on them, the campus planning papers and other evolutional details have been retraced year-by-years and can be easily used for future studies. |
