This paper aimed to explore how the Art Design and Living course encouraged learners to be involved in the art class through the implementation of creativity and community service, which focused on altruism and art creation. The course required that learners should incorporate art creation process into a five-stage service learning in small groups, which helped them to increase cooperation and information organization abilities, boost their creativity, and thereby complete their whole learning process of experiencing and practicing art. The learners’ reflection papers indicated that they could learn, reflect, and grow by dint of their handmade creations, package designs, market plans, and altruistic charity sale, among others; in addition to cultivating their humanity, the course helped the learners experience identifying their self-worth of bringing community happiness. As such, the course has helped the learners increase their abilities to imagine and start their enterprises. It is a hope that the course can open one window for interested teachers to design multi-faceted courses to make general education diverse and rich. |
