The purpose of this study was to investigate participants' perceptions of a survival skills solo within a wilderness experience program. The research on the survival skills solo focused both on the reflection and the survival skill in wilderness settings. Qualitative data indicated that the survival skills solo provided mental, physical and emotional challenges which may help the participants to grow through the successes. Additionally, the solo experience encouraged spiritual growth through prayer, meditation, and reading Bible where participants felt the connection between God and them. Third, the survival skills solo was a time allowed opportunity for reflection, introspection, and contemplation in solitude and silence. Finally, it occurred in beautiful, natural, and inspirational setting. The results provided better understanding the different kinds of solo experiences. |
