In order to understand how the library websites have met the norms of website barrier-free standard after the new version released, this paper attempts to find a common problem of web accessibility design among 25 national and public libraries by using an automatic assessment tool, Freego 2.0. The focus interview is also conducted to realize the opinions of 6 web masters or designers for analyzing their cognition and attitudes of website barrier-free standard. Accordingly, the suggestions are proposed for web accessibility design that libraries can meet the objective of equal access services. The results indicate that a large proportion of library web pages are inaccessible. The typical barriers in library web pages are in pictures, forms and website headers without additional text and alternative information. According the findings, libraries can improve the accessibility of their web presence by adopting standard-based design and by inviting their disabled community in usability testing of library web pages. Applying the solution will help improve library web accessibility for the disabled. |
