Information sharing is a key concept in the research field of information behavior, which receives particular attention when the concept of Web2.0 becomes popular. This study attempts to explore meanings of information sharing activities among elementary school students. Primary methods for collecting research data include observation of participants' information sharing behavior and interview with focused student groups. The findings show that in general these elementary school participants like to share information with their teachers and classmates. For them, information sharing serves as an important foundation for socialization, collaborative learning, and construction of knowledge. Factors that usually influence these participants' will to share information include trust, the mechanism of reward, self-esteem, and teachers' attitudes. In the conclusion, this paper discusses such related issues as the relationship between information sharing and information encountering, activities of information sharing on the Internet, construction of information sharing contexts, and information sharing for the purpose of exchange. |
