The NCL is an important research library in Taiwan. It is responsible for the tasks of collecting the nation's books and disseminating knowledge. It is also an institution of legal deposit for publications in Taiwan. In addition to paper books, e-books, and audio-visual materials, masters and PhD dissertations from all universities in Taiwan are subject to deposit. In accordance with the spirit of freedom of information and ''open access'', the NCL offers researchers convenience with which to conduct academic research and consultation. With the support of the Ministry of Education, the NCL has established three extremely important databases: the National Digital Library of Theses and Dissertations in Taiwan, the PerioPath: Index to Taiwan Periodical Literature System, and the Taiwan Citation Index-Humanities and Social Sciences (TCI-HSS). All authorized electronic full texts are open to the Internet, and can be freely accessed by researchers; through the integration and connection of the relevant data resources of these three databases, researchers can effectively retrieve the required data. The databases could be described as three great tools for Chinese academic research. |
