Experienced tour guides are selected to participate in semi-structured interviews, through which their work experiences, personal preferences and uses of carry-on bags were investigated. Objective Tree methodology was then used to establish design objectives by integrating the content analysis of the interview results and product analysis. The optimal design philosophy and plans for future product development were thus determined. The study concludes with four major design principles to satisfy international tour guides' requirements of a portable carry-on bag: functional, expressive, aesthetic, and multipurpose.
