From the Editors: Reaching Out a Small Step

在去年創刊號出版即將屆滿半年之時，當代中國研究通訊第二期終於要面世了。如果第一期的出版是清華當代中國研究中心成立時，向學術界朋友問好的見面禮；那麼，第二期的出版，就是我們在實踐中國研究典範轉移重任的使命上，所踏出雖小、但堅定的第一步。
After the publication of the first issue of the Contemporary China Nesletter on Octorber 31 in 2003, we received many responses and were asked when the second issue would appear. The answer was six months later. We are very pleased to be able to stick to our words and present you with the second issue of the Contemporary China Newsletter -- more or less on time! This is another small but firm step by the CfCC in our effort to reach out to the China Studies community and to further its development in Taiwan. Several features of the second issue are notable. In this issue, an effort was made to expand the contents and the sources of the contributors to better serve the needs of the academic community.
