AbstractThis paper employs the data envelopment analysis to measure the productive efficiency and investigate the determinants of efficiency by Tobit regression in Taiwan's cultural and creative industry during the period 2002-2010. The findings show that capital is the most efficient input, but there exists some spaces to improve labor and output efficiency. Moreover, the statistically significant and positive efficiency determinants ordered by elasticity are: ratio of exports to sale, domestic income and value-added rate. The results suggest three implications. First, expanding foreign market is the most effective approach to increase productive efficiency of cultural and creative industry in Taiwan. The government should create better environments, like removing trade barriers or product promotion, to enhance the international competitiveness. Second, domestic economy could provide a strong support to build a basic market for the firms. The domestic market is helpful to generate economic scale effect by increasing production quantity. Third, the decision-makers in cultural and creative industry should think about how to promote the value-added rate of their goods and services to increase their profit. |
