NCL Director-General Shu-hsien Tseng spoke at the beginning of the workshop, stating that since 2009, every two years NCL has put on an International Workshop for Professional Librarians as a way to increase interaction with East Asian libraries and Sinological institutions throughout the world. This has proven to not only deepen academic exchange between Taiwan and the rest of the world but also to put on display the research achievements of and new trends in the library and information science discipline in Taiwan. For this workshop, twelve important scholars in humanities related fields from Taiwan and abroad were invited to present. Those from abroad came from Kyoto University, the University of Washington, College of William & Mary, and the Czech Academy of Sciences| those from Taiwan are from Academia Sinica, National Taiwan University, National Cheng-chi University, National Taiwan Normal University,and Dharma Drum Buddhist College. Each session was focused on discussing experiences, research, technology, or tools related to digital humanities. A new milestone was achieved in digital humanities application through the dialog and discussion at the workshop. |
