In recent years, there seems to be an increasing number of Japanese enrolled in the Department of Japanese Language (including Department of Japanese Language and Literature, or Departments of Applied Japanese) in Taiwanese universities as regular international students. Since the objective of such Departments is to equip students with proper Japanese language skill and related knowledges, why would a native Japanese enroll in such Departments? This study focuses on the Japanese enrolled in the Department of Japanese Language in Taiwanese universities as regular international students, exploring how and to what end, for what reasons they came to study abroad in this way. The research is conducted via survey questionnaire, analyzed by KJ Method, with a result consisting of 27 small groups, 9 medium groups and 2 large groups from 71 labels. We discovered the students came to study in Taiwan with an affection towardsthis place, to learn not Japanese but Chinese, while some also consider changing majors after the enrollment. Also, after coming to Taiwan, they could feel stressed out by inter-person relations and the reality in school, as well as not being able to makeimprovements to that. |
