Etanercept is a tumor necrosis factor-alpha antagonist that is widely used in clinical practice to treat rheumatoid arthritis and other autoimmune diseases. Heart failure and chest pain are the possible adverse effects associated with its use, and caution is advised in patients with known heart failure who receive this medication. We present the case of a 45-year-old man with rheumatoid arthritis who developed chest pain and left ventricular systolic dysfunction following etanercept therapy. Etanercept was discontinued and standard heart failure treatment was instituted, which led to the resolution of his symptoms and recovery of left ventricular function to near normal. |
