Objectives: The purpose of this study is to explore the relationship between Interferon Induced with Helicase C Domain 1 (IFIH1) gene single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) rs1990760 and the clinical presentation of lupus nephritis (LN) in patients with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE). Methods: This study included patients with a definitive diagnosis of SLE who were followed by the Rheumatology Department at Chang-Gung Memorial Hospital, Kaohsiung for at least 6 months. Clinical evaluations included disease activity measurements and clinical laboratory data. Comparisons of the rs1990760 SNP genotype between patients with and without nephritis were done in patients with SLE. Results: We enrolled a total of 91 patients with lupus in this study, 38 of whom were diagnosed with LN. Patients with TT homozygous allele were associated with a lower prevalence of lupus nephritis (p<0.05), both with and without age-matching. The patients with lupus nephritis were younger, experienced greater lupus disease activity, and had lower monocyte percentages. Conclusions: This study provides some evidence of a link between the IFIH1 SNP rs1990760 and the prevalence rate of clinical lupus nephritis. |
