The former Director-General of the National Central Library (NCL), Prof. Chen-ku Wang, passed away peacefully in his sleep at noon on June 9, 2019, aged 95. People from library field were deeply saddened to hear the news. Prof. Wang served as Director-General of the NCL from March 1977 to July 1989. His 12 year and four month tenure saw the completion of much important work, including managing the library’s move to newly-built premises on Zhongshan South Road; spearheading the library’s automatization, and the creation of the National Bibliographic Information Network (NBINet); establishing the Center for Chinese Studies in 1981 and helping sinology scholars come to Taiwan to conduct research; promoting the important task of implementing ISBN in Taiwan and establishing a firm foundation for the work of the NCL. |
