Chinese words are ideographical; I believe that the word used in Hakkanese lexes has only one correct wording in each syllable. Previously, scholars who have been studying hakkanese wordings suggested that there is only one shifting rule of consonants, rhymes and tones to clarify the correct wordings, while I contended, following Mei's viewpoint, that there should be two or even more than two sound changing rules to clarify the correct wordings in this thesis. We could find out the correct Hakkanese wording through its literary/colloquial contrasts or different pronunciations(because or not because of different meanings). |
