The aims of the study were to explore the status quo of gifted education in public junior high schools in Taichung City and to provide the improvement suggestions. The personnel of the gifted education service in Taichung public junior high schools were taken as subjects, and, census questionnaire was adopted as the research method through self-made questionnaire. 204 from 208 samples (including 19 gifted education administrators and 189 gifted education teachers) were valid. The main findings were as follows: 1. The gifted classes were mainly set up in large-scale schools. 2. The pressure from educational competition and the limitations of course arrangement restrained the implementation of gifted education. 3. Gifted classes teachers had high demand for teaching materials and further education. 4. Qualified teachers for gifted education were insufficient. 5. System of norms and resource input were two primary aspects to improve the status of gifted education in public junior high schools in Taichung City. |
