On August 14, 2018, New Taipei City Library became the first of Taiwan’s public libraries to launch facial recognition technology. No library card is necessary: after scanning the reader’s face, he or she inputs a password, and can then borrow or return books. The technology is also used to gain entry into staff less libraries. |
