The Palace museum once was situated in Beigou for a time span of sixteen years. During that time local people got involved with the museum because they were employed there. This paper tells the story of these employees based on interviews held with people concerned. The paper is divided in three parts: The first part is concerned with people who directly served in the Palace museum, the second part is based on the experiences of the spouses of those working in the Palace museum, the third part is concerned with people serving at the Taipei site of the Palace museum. These three different groups contributed to the safe passage of the national treasures to Taipei and thus are described as a gleam (of hope). |
