Erythrina variegata var. orientalis

刺桐在台灣栽植遍及各地，在各縣市都是相當重要的行道樹，庭園也栽植頗多，開花紅豔美麗，觀花價值高。2003年春天台灣地區許多刺桐未見開花，枝葉卻凸粒狀腫大且糾結扭曲，泛亞非區域重要害蟲刺桐釉小蜂入侵台灣的刺桐，至2008年已遍及本島從南到北，外島也未能倖免，不少感染的刺桐已死亡。目前病因確定，治療的方法也正嘗試中，只是尚未完全治癒，有待專家努力，讓刺桐這本土長壽命的觀花大喬木能再以健康姿態續存台灣。除刺桐釉小蜂問題方興未艾外，刺桐還有樹根毀損硬體、以及會形成環根影響樹木本身生長等問題，都讓維護管理單位頗頭痛的。建議刺桐釉小蜂未完全控制前，暫時不要新種植刺桐及該屬的其他花木。 Erythrina variegata var. orientalis were planted everywhere in Taiwan. Erythrina variegata var. orientalis infect Quadrastichus erythrinae. They became ugly. Their leaves were granular and swollen. Pesticide was trying to cure, but not completely recover now. We suggest that stop planting Erythrina variegata var. orientalis until they completely cure.
