林木各部位的穩定碳同位素組成的差異,可提供林木生長所在的土壤、水分狀態與氣候狀態的訊息。藉由如樹輪纖維素等含碳樣本的分析,瞭解林木進行光合作用固定碳過程、呼吸作用、生化代謝作用途徑受影響的因素。進而,推廣至整個森林生態系甚至全球的尺度,有助於瞭解地球過去的氣候狀態變化與大氣圈CO2濃度變化,且可藉以探討森林生態系在全球碳循環中扮演供源,或是積存的角色。
The variations of stable carbon isotope composition in the parts of tree can take the information about soil, water, and climate that trees were grown. By analysis of carbon-contented samples, liked cellulose of tree rings, to study the factors that effect on photosynthesis, respiration, and biochemical metabolism pathways. Extend the scale to whole forest ecosystem or the global, we can understand the changes of past climate and atmospheric carbon dioxide concentration, and study forest ecosystem play the role of source or sink in the global carbon cycle. |
