Some of the old buildings on the foothill of Saracen’s Hill(Chi-hou Hill)were demolished in the Japanese Colonial Period, in sync with the rocky reefs removing works, as well as the Takow Factory building works for shipbuilding and ship repairs. The location of these buildings has for years the subject of much debate, with no recorded documents concerning the exact location of these buildings. Maps, literatures and pictures were collected for documentary analysis and overlay analysis in order to infer the location of these old buildings on the Saracen’s Hill in Qing Dynasty and the Japanese Colonial Period. A map was drawn to reproduce the geographical environment at the end of the 19th century. My study finds that the location and building image of David Manson Memorial Hospital and the Light house of Saracen’s Hill were totally wrong due to a total misreading of documents. Thus my map reproduction indeed benefits contributes to the comprehension of literatures and interpretation of pictures, as well as the inferring of the location of old buildings. |
