In 2016, a total of 674,991 batches of imported foods and related products were submitted to the Taiwan Food and Drug Administration (TFDA) for import inspection. The main countries of origin were Japan, Mainland China, and the U.S.A., from which 154,109, 90,920 and 83,455 batches were imported respectively. Together, they represented 48.7% of the entire cohort. Out of 52,722 batches tested, 915 batches were found to be non-compliant. The major cause of non-compliance was pesticide residues in agricultural products. The results of the import inspection provided valuable management information in determining the risks of different food categories, food origins and risk factors for the control of imported food. |
