In order to know whether online beauty products in Taiwan were in compliance with the relevant regulations of the cosmetic products, in 2016. The Taiwan Food and Drug Administration (TFDA) had conducted a quality survey of the online beauty products which includes 4 product categories: facial cleanser, lotion, sunscreen and nail polisher. Each category included 16 samples that were randomly collected, amounted to 64 samples totally. Among them were 17 domestic products and 47 imported ones. The quality assessments were executed depending on the product category, that the microbial content was assessed for facial cleaners and the methanol and toluene contents were tested for nail polishers. The results showed that 2 samples’ ingredients were different from label claims (3.1% non-compliance rate): There is 1 domestic lotion in which the claimed ingredient ethyl ascorbic acid was not detected, and the other was a sunscreen lotion in which the found ingredients were different from the label claim. The findings were forwarded to the local health authorities as references to inquire corrective actions from the correspondent manufacturers or dealers. |
