To investigate whether the quality of the cosmetics sold in Taiwan were in compliance to the “Microbial limit in Cosmetics” published by Department of Health in 2005, local health authorities from January to December in 2016 randomly collected 177 samples from depertment stores, convenience stores, drugstores, cosmeceutical and hairsalons, supermarkets, and hypermarkets. Among 177 samples, 98 were domestic products, 78 were imported and 1 was labeled without country identify. According to the methods, “Microbiological Methods for Cosmetics”, published by TFDA, the Aerobic Plate Count (APC) was executed and the commom microorganisms Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Staphylococcus aureus were tested. Four samples were found to have an APC over the tolerable limit, while P. aeruginosa was detected in one sample. The surveillance findings were forwarded to the authorities for further corrective actions. |
