Pier-2 Art Center is an area born by "The Adaptive Reuse of Unused Space" policy. After ten more years of development, it's like a rising star to bring new hope to the shrinking YanCheng District. It also imports digital, tourism and leisure industries for city renewal transformation. Through the promotion of cultural and creative industries policy and linkage to Kaohsiung "Asia's new Bay Area" blueprint, Kaohsiung City Government would like to enhance Pier-2 as an art platform with international standards. In this case study, will discuss how is the success of Pier 2 Art Center in Kaohsiung City to reuse of unused spaces and will also make recommendations for its sustainable development strategies. Through in-depth interviews, observation and literature data analysis methods, Pier-2 can have more improvements on public-private partnership operation, local connections, art promotions and talents developments. Based on the research results, summarized the recommendations as follows: 1. Open private participation in the operation to provide creative diversity and vitality. 2. Combine "Hongmaogang Cultural Park" and "The British Consulate at Takow" to form the cultural tourism wave. 3. Continuously introduce highlights industry to make the industry cluster effects. 4. Set up story museum of Old Pier-2 to preserve the cultural history. 5. Strengthen the local communication channels to seek the local residents' supports. 6. Enrich public installation art to create a unique style park. 7. Build "Street Arts Platform" and villages to bring aesthetic education into life. 8. Construct artistic residency platform to promote international cultural exchange. 9. Combine the local university resources to develop talents. 10. Develop arts administration talents to do the artistic professional plans. Hope that through these strategies, Pier-2 can not only make sustainable development, but also enhance its art center functions. |
