The rapid increase of the elderly population is the trend of social development. While the elderly population, the people who are over 65 years old, has taken over 10.28% of the total population in Taiwan, the Senior industries will be the great future opportunities for business. The industries in Kaohsiung area are mostly traditional industries, which are facing the stage of restructuring and replacement. This study aims to explore the feasibility of the development of Senior Industries in Kaohsiung by using the SWOT analysis and the diamond theory and by consulting opinions from the industry, the government and academia. The study concludes that to promote the senior industries in the Kaohsiung area, the authorities can focus on national industrial policies with local advantages. The initial selected senior industries are medical equipment industry, assistive devices and health care and tourism medical industry. In the beginging of the industry, the government has to set up relating policies over human resources and regulation, so that the companies can enter the new industry. Second, the location of the industries should be planned in advance to form the industrial clusters effect. Finally, this study proposes three strategic recommendations for the development of the senior industries. |
