The potential usefulness of geographic information on public health is widely recognized with many successful cases. Dengue fever recently has become a threat to the public health in Taiwan. The Center of Decease Control has established both the examine system of infection carrier mosquito and the notification system of illness-cases. This research made an attempt on managing these data by geographic information system (GIS). The results show GIS can not only fully represent the spatial pattern of dengue fever, but also help us to gather related data to analysis the spatial factors of environment. However, such data were stored in spreadsheet format that incompatible with GIS data. Second, they were without spatial referencing. Beside, the distributions of sampling points were not representatively enough. All these make the data inadequate for spatial analysis. Based of the experience of manipulating these data, the authors suggest that future collection of data should be geo-spatial referenced in GIS data format with a well defined framework for sampling. |
