An isolated bidirectional dual-active-half-bridge (DAHB) DC/DCconverter with a current-clamp phase-shift control is proposed in this paper. The DAHB converter combines the functions of a bidirectional power flowtransformer, with features including galvanic isolation, high step-up ratioand zero voltage switching, making it highly applicable to energy storagesystems in electric vehicles and in the generation of DC uninterruptiblepower and solar photovoltaic power. In energy storage systems equippedwith the bidirectional DC/DC converter that requires a voltage and current control loop, the phase shift controller controls the direction and magnitudeof the energy transfer by adjusting voltage phases across the transformer. The peak current mode is applicable only when output voltage is higherthan input voltage, and hence, cannot be used as a current control loop inthis bidirectional DC/DC converter. Therefore, the proposed current-clampphase-shift control method may be applied to output voltage that is higherthan, equal to and lower than the input voltage of the isolated bidirectionalDAHB DC/DC converter. The proposed current-clamp phase-shift controlof the converter exhibits good steady-state and dynamic performance duringthe bidirectional operation for the energy storage systems. Finally, a 500 Wexperimental prototype is built to show the performance and verify thefeasibility of the proposed isolated bidirectional DAHB DC/DC converterusing the current-clamp phase-shift control. |
