This article’s goal was to analyze the synthesis of room temperatureliquid crystal materials with low molar mass organosiloxane. The structurescontain 4'-hydroxybiphenyl-4-yl 4-hydroxybenzoate core and chiralbutyl 2-hydroxypropanoate unit, and organosiloxane on the end of theachiral molecules. A few novel series of room temperature compoundswere synthesized, and the mesophases exhibited by them were compared.The mesophases under discussion were investigated using polarizingmicroscopy, differential scanning calorimetry, and X-ray diffraction. Thesubstituent had a strong influence in reducing the clearing temperatures andincreasing temperature range. The influence of the molecular structure onthe occurrence of the SmC* phase was investigated in the article. |
