This paper presents a ray tracing approach for geometric mouldability analysis of manufactured parts during injection process. In order to avoid interference between the mould and the moulding product when the product is ejected from its mould, a set of algorithms using the geometry of the manufactured part to identify the surface visibility. The real undercut features are generated by two stages: main solids creation, in which the solids to be created are composed of minimal contour solid and extensional solids from the manufactured part; and a Boolean operation, in which real undercuts are constructed through an automated Boolean difference operation on the minimal contour solid by subtracting the extensional solids and the original solid model. This method is completely based on solid modelling techniques. |
