In this paper the designs of diamond dies for multi-pass metal alloy wire drawing processes is investigated. A finite element analysis of wire drawing is used to predict the stress distributions and the forming force. The multi-pass analysis is aimed to achieve a satisfactory balance of the drawing stress on the material maintaining in the meantime the drawing stress at each pass below a safety value. Both the traditional drawing process and the reduced drawing process are simulated. The results indicate that the reduced drawing process improves the forming force, effective stress and strain. The cost of forming is also greatly reduced. |
