This paper proposes a Resource Refinement Adaptation Control(R2AC) for embedded multimedia communications. The fundamental controlprocedure of R2AC accounts for the limited computational capabilityand memory of the embedded system, and the MPEG-4 object priority.R2AC supports adaptation control and offers seamless steady multimediastreaming based on monitoring mobile network traffic and the computingresources of the client, including the status of the CPU and the memory.When the available resources are not sufficient, the client releases someunnecessary system processes to obtain more available memory and CPU computing resources for application. A quality-based differentiated presentationcontrol mechanism is proposed to balance the workload of the embeddedsystem based on resource threshold. |
