The metal wires are a key metal material and are applied widely invarious industries. Although several new techniques have been invented toproduce metal wires from melted metals, in the conventional manufacturingprocess, metal wires are produced from an ingot which passes througha rolling and drawing process. Some process parameters such as die reductionrate, drawing velocity and lubricant oil temperature may affect theproduction volume, quality and cost of the process of drawing. The purposeof this paper is to investigate the optimal process parameters for SUS 304stainless steel to maximize wire production volume. Using Taguchi meth- ods, an L9 orthogonal array is constructed. It is found that lubricant oil anddrawing velocity are the controlling factors for improving productivity. Finally, the production volume increased 33.5% when lubricant oil temperaturewas set at 45℃ and drawing velocity was set at 620 m/min. |
