The subject of this paper is the application of computer aided tools, MATLAB/SIMULINK, to help students learn the design of power factor correction (PFC) circuits. Although [1] has created a behavior model library for PFC systems, it is only useful in learning the basic theory and has no specific relationship with practical circuit implementations. On the other hand, the SIMULINK models in this paper are constructed to be useful with available PFC control chips from IC manufacturers. Therefore, they are useful for engineers and students to explore practical issues when a PFC control chip (for example, the UC3854 from Texas instruments) is adopted to construct an entire circuit. The success of the idea is validated by the close agreement of experimental results and the simulation results using corresponding SIMULINK models. |
