七十毫米影片劇場及其在台灣地區博物館中的發展

The 70mm Film Theaters and It’s Development in Taiwan’s Museums

70毫米影片劇場也稱為「大螢幕劇場」，是1970年加拿大IMAX公司發明的超高畫質影片規格，三十多年來與博物館教育緊密結合，幾乎成為世界各大博物館的標準門面。台灣目前有五座IMAX-15/70、一座GOTO-10/70劇場、一座IWERKS-8/70和兩座IWERKS-5/70劇場，大多隸屬於不同的公立社教館所，只有2004年底開幕的美麗華影城是純民營的商業影城。現有劇場每年的參觀人數合計接近一百五十萬人次，在台灣的社教推廣工作上有極重要的地位。劇場雖然是博物館教育推廣的重要工具，但卻缺乏完整而有系統的研究分析。本文將先對大螢幕劇場的源起、發展及演替做基本介紹；繼而擴及所有衍生系統並從各種技術規格探討其興衰成敗的原因；然後再介紹國內現有的70毫米影片劇場以及發展評估；文末將會討論純商業劇場、好來屋影業的加入以及DMR轉製技術等因素對於70毫米影業未來發展的影響。

IMAX Corporation invented the world’s first 70mm ultra-high quality film projection system and premiered it at the Fuji Pavilion, EXPO '70 in Osaka, Japan. Thirty-five years after its invention, the 70mm giant screen theater has become a standard facility for most major museums and science centers all over the world. In Taiwan, almost 1.5 million people visit the 9 existing theaters each year. The 70mm giant screen theaters have done significant contribution in the public science education. In this article, I will review the invention and evolution of the 70mm film/theater and its development in Taiwan. I will also discuss the influence of some new factors: the pure commercial theaters, the Hollywood involvement, and the DMR technology in the future of the 70mm film industry.
