Almost since opening time for every large science museum, the exhibits are mainly designed by foreign companies. After 5 or 10 years, they have to face the pressure and demands of renewal. For science museums in Taiwan, it could be said that exhibition renewal is a new development. This research takes the ''Mitigation of Nature Hazards'' gallery in NSTM as an example to discuss the idea of renewing exhibitions. Analysis of visitors' self-answered questionnaires, results of informal an investigation by museum staff, and the author's observations provide the main considerations for renewing exhibitions. Besides, the exhibition strategy of the whole museum can also affect its direction and scope. This research tries to use possible budget and applied reference materials from current investigations to renew the exhibition contents. The interactive and experiential units are the main renewal targets. The visitors' responses to such renewal should be evaluated further to judge its efficiency. |
