This article describes a nursing experience of caring for a rectum cancer patient whoreceived hemodialysis within one year after a rectal operation. The period of nursing carewas from February 22 to March 16, 2015. Information was gathered through systematicobservation, conversation, and physical assessment, with the Roy model as an assessmentframework. Three major health problems were identified including acute pain, anxiety, andlack of knowledge in caring for oneself. The author built up a trusting relationship with thepatient, provided mental support and informed related knowledge and care skills to reduce thepatient's pain and discomfort. The measures also helped the patient reduce anxiety in facingthe unexpected future, and improved their self-care ability. We hope that this nursing careexperience can be used as a reference to other nurses when encountering similar cases in thefuture. |
