The society and its culture had widely changed in Taiwanin the late period of Japanese govern. As Taiwanese scholars, however, they still insisted on their Utopia. My essay aims todiscuss the Buddhistic magazine, the last ceasing publication. Itry to explore Chong-shen Moral Magazine in different ways—its establishment, motives, progress, main contents as well asfunction. Moreover, the magazine persisted in using classical prose, advocated traditional morals. All in all, it provided positivemeaning in classics and social discipline. Nevertheless, Chongshenteams’ close relation to Japan also hinted something—that’s why it denied vernacular prose and New Culture Movement. There are three features of the magazine. First, it providedvarious contents for all walks of life. Second, it accepted writingsfrom different areas. Material and style of these articles show theirdiversification. Third, the contents changed in the latter period. Itshowed the authority seriously interfered media. In addition, the magazine not only supplied moral codes butalso provided a place for Confucianism and literature. Therefore,in the last part of my essay, it elucidated Chong-shen MoralMagazine’s significance and values in philosophy and literature. In Confucian scholars’ insistence, the magazine affected socialthoughts and traditional culture. It also supplied a place for thecreation of classical culture, esp for classical poems. It playedan important role in classical poets in late period of Japanesegovern. |
