This article mainly responds to Wut Tai Shing's 'On Thomé H. Fang's interpretation of Huayan thought', arguing that in comparison with 'how' did Fang interpret Huayan, 'why' Fang interpreted Huayan in the way he did is more important, which brings the whole discussion from a descriptive level to a more explanatory dimension. This article further argues that Fang interpreted Huayan from his own perspective of 'philosophy of comprehensive harmony', that provides an alternative focus of study about the relationship between Fang and Huayan thought. |
