World Wide Web has become an important place for knowledge sharing and accumulation. It is fair to believe that those who are able to create their own web pages also most likely include issues concerning with information technology applications in their web pages. Therefore, this article chooses some keywords to explore the status of information technology applications to urban and regional planning by employing the searching capability of Google. By making knowledge map, it is found that traditionally mathematical models are still prevailing, but applications using new information technologies, such as geographical information systems, are lacking. However, by examining the knowledge map, it is also found that some planning issues, such as collaborative planning and public participation, and some information technology issues, such as geographical information systems, cellular automata, agent based modeling, rule based reasoning, case based reasoning, data standards, and information sharing, are highly inter-cited and could become nucleuses for knowledge amalgamation. Finally, this article also discusses the directions of future work. |
