Hsin-Chu Science-Based Industrial Park, established in 1980, has been one of the main development in Taiwan's national economy. The Park promotes not only the related industries in its vicinity, but also new knowledge creation. The population in Hsin-Chu area has grown rapidly during the past two decades. The population structure, educational attainment, residential community distribution, and industrial pattern have changed significantly. Under the influence of the globalization of high-tech industries, the quantity and quality of office buildings have become an important issue. The relationships between the location of office buildings and industrial activities, the spillovers of innovative activities and knowledge creation, and the changing production pattern of local industries stimulated by high-tech industries, form a specific industrial network. Therefore, this study examines the evolution of the vicinity through socio-economic spatial perspectives that include population, community, production space, the formation of innovative milieu, and office buildings. The analysis leads to the conclusion that local innovation and production network will be promoted through the linking synergies of critical technological infrastructure and supporting space. |
