This study examines the causal relationships of individual recycling behavior in office environments in Taipei. A conceptual model suggesting the determinants of office recycling practices is shown and is tested. The model takes into account office recycling behaviors, household recycling behaviors, as well as individual attitudes and motivations. The role of the office layout as a determinant of office recycling behavior is also considered. A LISREL (Linear Structural Relationships) analysis was used to estimate the parameters of the model. There are five important findings in this study: (1). Different conservation behaviors have different antecedents. (2). Household recycling positively influences office recycling. (3). Economic motivation is not a prerequisite to conservation behavior. (4). Organizational commitment is important in encouraging office recycling. (5). Intrinsic satisfaction is derived from conservation behaviors. Theoretical implications of the findings ('Total Conservation Behavior System' Concept and A New Office Management Strategy) and policy and planning strategies for conserving resources as part of an integrated waste management program are discussed. |
