Li-ho Chung's Housefly used third person point of view to describe the consciousness of love affair of the protagonist. It employed the protagonist's view point as the main point of view to describe events, but it kept a distance from the protagonist's strong consciousness of love affair in order to observe every event calmly. This kind of calm “appreciation distance” enabled the reader to experience the beautifulness of the protagonist's love affair. To analyze the construction of description in Housefly, we might start from two ways: visual description and presentation of love affair. We discussed the love affair in this novel from the subject of the intension, vision of the object of the intension, and the affair in the vision. Finally, we tracked the intension flow of the protagonist's love affair via sensory description. |
