The aim of this study is to investigate communicative functions of repetition inchildren interaction. This study looks at how participants use repetitions to meetthe communicative needs and maintain conversation. The results of this studyindicate that children use repeated forms to convey the message, to maintain aconversation, to show response to the addresser, to create interaction etc. Thosefunctions are viewed as the main contribution to coherence in child discourse. Dueto the emphasis of kinship in Chinese culture, this study also shows repeated formsare often used by the younger child of participants in order to confirm the olderchild’s utterance. |
