Giant cell arteritis (GCA)/ temporal arteritis (TA) is the most prevalent arteritis in northern Europe, especially in populations with a Scandinavian background; however, GCA is rare in Chinese. Although GCA usually occurs after 50 years of age and involves branches of the aorta with a predilection for the external carotid artery; GCA before 50 years of age or visceral GCA has also been reported in Taiwan. The literature in Taiwan involving GCA/TA is limited to case reports. We present two new cases and summarize previous case reports undergoing temporal artery biopsies in Taiwan. The literature involving different Chinese Han societies is also discussed. |
